HOW IT WORKS
-

POSE and personality
Send me an email with your chosen option from the selection below, along with high-quality photos of your pet and a description of their personality and character. Together we review your photos and decide which shot/s best captures their spirit
-

Sketch
Next I make a simple outline sketch to make sure I have the proportions correct. I only send this through if I feel I need confirmation about some aspect of the image, eg pose or framing.
-

painting
I paint your piece using the source photo and your description as inspiration
-

the finished piece
A beautiful, original, fine-art watercolour will be in the post to you within 2 to 4 weeks (after reference photos have been selected)
I use watercolour paint on high quality watercolour paper.
I generally prefer to paint head and shoulders only as it allows me to capture more of the face of the subject but full body sitting can also work well.
You can also see a process video on my instagram here
How to select the best REFERENCE PHOTOs to get the best result
Good quality, well lit reference photos make a huge difference for me!
A great hero image can work wonders but the more photos the better.
Ideally you’ll have one image of the subject that is close to what you want captured. I can make changes to expression, collar details etc but if you have a photo in your ideal pose that is super helpful! If that’s not possible, a series of photos that show me all the relevant markings is necessary.
Additional photos are a great help.
They allow me to get a better sense of your pet’s personality and distinctive details like fur markings and eye colour.
WHAT MAKES A GOOD PHOTO?
Natural lighting - ideally well lit but without strong shadows.
A straight on angle - if the camera is significantly higher or lower than the subjects it will affect the apparent proportions of the subjects.
Decent photo quality - phones these days generally take good quality photos it can just come down to how the images are shared. Make sure you emailing the largest image size you can.
