Treasured as an object - Watercolour on paper

Artist statement:

"Treasured As An Object reflects on my personal habit of saving purposeful items such as stationery, jewellery, badges or in this case clothing, and not using them. In effect transforming these utilitarian objects into knick-knacks. This jacket is from my childhood and was a wardrobe staple from about the age of nine years old. In the 2000s when I was a pre teen it was updated by cutting off the sleeves and ‘bedazzling’ it with jewels. I even added a sticker to a button and painted glitter nailpolish on another. All of which survived the wash, wear and numerous years in storage.

Out of love and fond memories I have kept the jacket all these years, even though it hasn’t comfortably fit in a very long time, saving it as a relic of my youth. In Treasured As An Object I have depicted the jacket adorned with other collected keepsakes of my childhood - badges, more saved stickers and a clip on earring that is evocative of the time I grew up in."
